This morning on my way to work, I flushed one of these avian jumbo jets from the marsh, right next to the road. I think this is as close as I've been to one, certainly since we moved out to the Greater Dryden Metroplex. I had neither my camera, nor the reflexes to use it, as he hit the afterburners hard and was out of sight in a matter of seconds, so this is a Googled photo. That large a bird, with such a striking silhouette, moving so quickly was quite a sight. I haven't seen one in a couple of years, so I'm glad to see at least one is still around. Every once in a while, one would take a breather in our pond, but HeronNet must have alerted the birds to the danger of the Pupton, who might almost have been fast enough to catch one.All else is well.
