Saturday

Enough said

Catching my breath

Sorry...the fonts in this post are all messed up. Another five points from Blogspot...

Ahhh...Saturday...at last. Been a long week. Next week promises to be only slightly less stressful as I address all the URGENT priorities that have been set aside for my TOP priorities. I usually associate August with heat and humidity - it's not my favorite month (but it beats February and March like a rug). Today it is warm, but not too much so, and dry. I was at work until 8 pm last night, didn't get home until close to nine, and was so keyed up I watched HBO until half-past midnight. At 6:06 am, the Beaner landed on the bed like it was an an aircraft carrier. I think there shall be a nap today...

This Golden Beast was not being particularly photogenic today, she was either snuffling about in the hedges, or facing away from me, or moving so fast and erratically, that I had no hope of synchronizing an exposure with her presence. So the great thing about digital cameras is that you can basically just hold down the shoot button and wait until everything coincides. It took about 25 shots, but eventually I got a usable one. She got those chompers cleaned yesterday. Mine will get maintained on Monday.

A couple more leftovers from Crane's point. This testy feline guarded the fireplace in the 'great room'. I can't say I'm a big taxidermy fan, but when in the Adirondacks, you have to expect that there will be still forest creatures in nearly every building.

Here's a clearer, if more distant look at Rock Island.

Monday

More 'vacation'

  • So, this was the first time I had left the Greater Dryden/Ithaca/Cortland Metroplex since New Years. I just never felt the need to go anywhere. I guess I have thoughts on that, losing The Pupton was tough, but I dunno...

Anyway, here are a few more pictures and some brief explainations. More thoughts later, maybe...

Here's the most I could capture of the back of the lodge.

Some local kid catching a ride...

Maxi Max (aka Maxine, the Pupton's former partner in crime) thinking, 'Hey, I could use a ride on The Toob)

As I said before/below, this eyesore behind the BML Inn is alledgedly coming down. After 15 years, Pat Cunningham is Taking Action!!!!!!!

Here is an exterior shot of the Crane's Point Lodge. Gives you some sense of scale, but it hides amongst the trees...

Wow! This pond is much bigger than my pond! What am I supposed to do here???(to my knowledge, Sweetie jumped in the lake just once. It's a big pond.)

Ah, here is an image of Rock Island, nearly 13 years after the blessed event, and 11(?) since the Big Blowdown that decapitated the trees that presided over our wedding. Sorry about the focus, the boat was moving rather fast...

Sunday

Instant Vacation...

Just add nine days...

Rosemary and Ellie have been up in BML for the last week with her family. I was unable to get away from work until mid-afternoon Friday. I arrived just in time for a nice sunset. I got to spend a day on the lake, then had to bring Ellie home this morning. So, it wasn't really a complete vacation for me...

At the house, this fellow was waiting to greet me.

It's too bad about not having had more time - this year, we made a departure from tradition and stayed at Crane's Point, about a mile up the road from the BML Inn. And rather a step up. While not quite Deluxe Luxury accommodations the house was in very nice shape and there was plenty of room for all to spread out. It has a large dock and boathouse, a ping pong pavillion and was nice and isolated, sharing the point with just one other manor, which wasn't even visible through all the trees.
Here is the 'great room' on Staturday morning. And the view from the porch.

"Please let me in!"
"Why?"
"So I can ask to be let back out again..."

The BML lake has actually been undergoing some rennovation - this is a new roof, and the house is mostly scraped for...gasp...a new paint job. And the tumbledown shed/garage out back is allegedly going to be torn down and carted away.

Here is most of the crew awaiting their turn on the speedboat and/or inner tube.

More pix tomorrow - blogspot insists on posting them in reverse order, then makes it a real pain to resequence them.
