'Tis the season...

These pictures are funky! They look like I ran them through a Photoshop 'wacky distortion' filter or something, but I swear they are raw and unretouched. Syracuse, an hour north of here, got a foot of snow last night, Binghamton an hour south likewise. Schools were closed across the entire region, but we only got a few inches. Enough to warrant a plowing, but really we dodged the bullet last night. Tonight is shaping up to be another story...

All in favor of having fall foliage season last three months and snow season three weeks, say aye!!!!!!

Saturday

We got a new door. Here it is. Apparently, in 2007, if you buy a door, for about $1,000 w/ labor, a doorknob is not included. Maybe that's OK, but, one might expect that the topic be broached at the time of purchase. Instead of having some redneck screaming at the tail end of the 'installation', at the last minuite, "Sir, are we going to use the old doorknob?( which of course doesn't fit)

So, we got snowed on yesterday (Friday). Above is what thin gs looked like at the house, and then, just a few miles away, in Ithaca. I got more pix. Mebbe I'll postem.

Reality, what a concept

Once again Blogspot has foiled my intentions. But the point is that the rotation of the universe has again dictated that we live without color or warmth. Apparently, this is why turnips were invented. It's hard for me, because as much as winter begreives me, living in a place like San Diego (wildfires aside) strikes me as horribly b0ring.

Friday

What's going on up there???

A Saturday morning a week or two back, the sky looked like this. I hope all the sailors took warning!!!

And a couple more post-peak illuminated landscapes. Things are really rusty and brown now, with some splashes of yellow, and the occasional splash of late season crimson.

Thursday

After the Fire...

Great news! The Finger Lakes Land Trust has purchased a lot of land that includes the parcel across the street from our driveway. So, now the land both behind the house and in front of the house are 'forever wild'. The sides are a little less secure, but when the current owner leaves the house next door, complete driveway rights revert to us, and for now, he is asking a ridiculous amount of money to buy the property. So, we're safe on that side for now. I don't know what the story is on the other side of the property.

Today we had sunshine, and it turns out that there is still some decent foliage to be seen.

Here we have a bunch of caged in pheasants on Game Farm Road. This is some kind of Cornell gig, and sometimes there are lots of game birds, and sometimes there are none. As you can see, there are a bunch of birds on 'the roof' taunting the pheasants.

And here is what the view from the driveway looked like today.

Tuesday

Tweetie, I don't think we're in Kansas anymore...

I would suggest viewing the hi-res copies of these. Pretty colorful! Since Sunday, it has been rainy and windy, and the extra-vivid leaves are now few and far between.

Monday

WHOMP, there it is!!!!!!!!

Looking ahead, I understand that the Colorado Rockies are like 22/23 or something like that. But, I'm pretty sure they're a hockey team, so I like the Sox' chances.

On Wednesday, god turned the electricity on - the trees got all yellow and red and orange. Unfortunately he also left the shower on. We finally got some sunshine yesterday. I have about 200 pictures of uniform mediocrity to sort through, but I will eventually share them with you all, my faithful readers.

And, finally, there is a presidential candidate I can get behind...http://tinyurl.com/ysa6qa

Thursday

More rain and fog this week, although the trees are still mostly green.
The Dalai Lama was in town yesterday, spoke at Cornell and IC. I saw him when he was here aboubt 15 years ago. Frankly, I found him a little hard to follow. There was some story about a lion and a bear or something...

Sunday

A New Loch Ness Monster Siting

Skeptics will want to look at the high-res image, but I believe that I have captured a digital image of the Loch Ness Monster, a few thousand miles west of Loch Ness. Sadly, I had accidentally switched the mode on the camera from Automatic to something called 'M', to which I attribute the darkness.

It is a bit discomfortating to try and sleep at night, knowing this creature is paddling about our pond.

Just another of the local foliage potpourri.

It's Sunday afternoon and things seem to be going the Sox way; sadly, it seems that we will not have the opportunity to properly thrash the Yankees. But it ain't over yet, and those Yankees are True Weasels and may yet find their way to the ALCS.

Things are starting to POP!

I've been trying to post these shots sequentually, but a) I can't keep track of them all, and b) blogspot uploads pictures seemingly randomly. But Foliage Season is hitting its stride. Which of course means that the weather has turned rainy, cloudy and windy for the last couple of days. But here's what it looked like around here when the sun was shining:

Tuesday

How Adorable am I??????

I am tired of The Blogger blaming me for his primative photographic skills. It's brilliant daylight, I look marvelous, and he's got me all washed out. NOT MY FAULT!!!!

Among my many monikers are The Sweetie, and Tweetie.

I am developing a fan base.
OK, for once me and The Blogger are on the same page. The idiot actually managed to find me in good light and capture my good side.

Yes, I have glow in the dark chompers. Deal with it.

Foliage

I'm not sure I have this exactly in sequence, although the last, kind of blurry shot, happened today. But this is what things have been looking like over the last couple of weeks. Of course, what tends to happen here is that, just when the colors are starting to POP, we get two weeks of rain, and the last several days have been rainy, foggy, and generally uncondisive to photography.

Thursday

It's almost Friday!

Not much to report. Fall is beginning.

Once again, I'm looking adorable, staying in focus and am well lit.

More scooby snacks, please!!!!

My lovely and charming wife was born with Original Sin. Yes, she is a Yankees fan. And her father has started sending her Yankees' paraphenalia. I decided that it was not fair to suggest to Ellie that the Yankees were the only game in town, so I tracked down a matching Red Sox dog bowl... As I type this, the Sox are down to a 1 1/2 game lead in the AL East, although it appears both teams will make the playoffs. But I'm not real happy with the current momentum.

Here I am doing my nutso thing where I roll around on my back, wave my legs in the air and yip. You gotta problem wid dat?
